What we do…

Coacher Academy has provided specialized tutoring to neurotypical, and neurodivergent students in foster care since 2021. Our staff includes State Certified educators and ABA trained support staff.

We have recently been approved as a vendor for the STEP UP FOR STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIPS and are now expanding our reach by offering tutoring at various sites in West Volusia County as well as in home.

What We Teach

Activities of daily living (ADLs) are the routine tasks that people perform to care for themselves and their surroundings. They are essential for personal independence and a high quality of life.

ADLs are typically divided into two categories:

  • Basic ADLs

These are fundamental self-care tasks, such as:

    • Eating

    • Dressing

    • Bathing or showering

    • Using the toilet

    • Grooming

  • Instrumental ADLs

These are more complex tasks that are necessary for independent living, such as:

    • Managing finances

    • Cooking

    • Cleaning

    • Shopping

    • Using transportation

Coacher Academy embodies what we call a synergistic ‘marriage’ of ABA principles and Montessori teaching. Our primary subject concentrations Math and Reading/ELA

  • Our program uses a Florida Best Standards based assessment to identify deficiencies in our students learning and implement individualized Montessori based curriculum to fill in the learners’ cracks.

  • We utilize standard Montessori manipulatives and tools to connect abstract learning concepts to physical and visual representations in order to cement a deep understanding of the subject matter for the learner.

  • We also have specially trained staff that utilize the Orton–Gillingham approach based Barton System to teach phonics and decoding for students who may have reading disabilities or who may just need the extra help.

  • As ABA therapists our staff is trained to establish & maintain a therapeutic relationship with students by pairing themselves as  reinforcing entities, building value for the student to encourage social interaction with the Tutor.  The tutor provides access to reinforcers (desired items/actions, attention, or removal of demands/aversive situations) to ensure engagement.

  • Our aim is to make learning look and feel like a game and give rewards for participation and mastery.
